Why Did Ty Leave Heartland Season 17: What Caused it?

Heartland was one of my best series back in the days. I love Graham Wardle, he did justice to the Ty Borden character, it’s too bad that he had to leave in Season 17. While audiences were hoping to come to terms with seeing one of the main series’ characters depart the show, a lot of questions continued to persist as to why the story of Ty on Heartland had to end.

Ty Borden’s Role in Heartland

Graham Wardle’s Ty Borden was among the lead roles in Heartland. He appeared in this show as an extremely troubled young fellow who later found a new lease on life in Heartland Ranch. He grew into an essential part of the family over time and most importantly, when he fell in love with the lead character, Amy Fleming.

Ty was a very caring, hardworking man, and he was really dedicated to the horses and the people around him. Most of his storyline throughout the years showed how such a problematic youth in his childhood finally grew up into a loving husband and father of his children.

The character of Ty added so much depth to the series since his growth and relationships were major plot points in Heartland‘s success. His presence helped shape the show, and that makes him an unforgettable figure among fans.

Why Did Ty Leave Heartland Season 17

The reason Ty was written out of Heartland Season 17 is quite simply because the creators thought his character had reached the end of his arc. Throughout the series, Ty developed from a difficult teenager to a mature husband and father. In writing him out, the writers were afforded fresh writing opportunities full of different complications for the remaining characters, thus bringing vitality to the series.

Also, Graham Wardle, the actor playing Ty, wanted to try other projects than Heartland. He felt that after ten years with the same series, he needed to try other acting projects and stretch his skills further as an actor.

Ty Borden’s Impact on the Heartland Series

Ty Borden, played by Graham Wardle, was a big character in Heartland. Viewers just loved him because he had a great heart, good morals, and was Amy’s husband. The character of Ty added so much depth to the series, and many of his storylines were about his personal growth and devotion to the Heartland family.

First, when Ty left Heartland, it was a huge shift to the series in Season 17. Being central to so many plotlines, his absence was deeply felt.

The show had to readjust, introducing new characters and shifting the focus toward other aspects of Heartland. Even after he had left, the impact of Ty on the show was still amazing. He made Heartland special in his own way, and his memory remains part of the series.

What is Ty Doing Right Now?

Currently, Ty hosts a podcast called Time Has Come. He has also released a book of poetry. Currently, you are only able to get a digital copy because they have sold all of the physical ones. Right before they completely sold out, he thanked fans in support.

Wardle wrote on Instagram, “Over ten years ago, someone dared me to put my writings in a book, and I thought, “No one would read it, why would I do that?” Well, over 2000 people did, and I’m eternally grateful. Thanks to all who have bought my book and supported my work.

Final Thoughts

It was a bit of a hard pill to swallow; Ty’s exit from Season 17 of Heartland actually allowed some much-needed growth and evolution in the series.

Continuing into newer story arcs and introducing new characters, the show didn’t let Ty’s void get in the way of its themes about family, love, and resilience.

While it may have been a time to say our goodbyes to Ty Borden, the spirit is still here, and his legacy is alive to keep reminding us of this indelible mark on the Heartland landscape.
